Sunway Lagoon 2016

I went to a meeting on Monday and the very informative info I got from that meeting was, Friday will be replacement holiday. yeay another long weekend. so we started to scout where we can go just for short getaway due to the long weekend/cuti sekolah/before berpuasa.

options available (1) langkawi (2) sunway lagoon

We opted for Sunway Lagoon since it's nearby and we did not have to travel. So I started doing little "research" all the while thinking Sunway Lagoon pun nak research ke? but the tickets not that cheap, and I found there are very little current reviews/tips on Sunway Lagoon. Everybody go Legoland eh nowadays? or nobody write blog anymore.

The tickets was quite expensive. Prices as below.

Since, this was an ad-hoc plan, I only managed to buy the tickets on Wednesday.

Our group consists of 11 Adults of which 1 is Indonesian, 1 child and 1 baby.

The best deal that I could secure for our group is 4 To Go.

There are 12 tickets that I need to purchase. So I did a little calculation, between

(i) to buy 3 x 4 To Go package

(ii) to buy 2 x 4 To Go package + 3 adults tickets + 1 child ticket

It turned out option (i) and (ii) amounted exactly the same. However, for the 4 To Go package, I would get free RM20 meal and RM20 retail voucher. So I would like to proceed with option (ii)

Important (at least for me) info that I clarified with Sunway Lagoon Marketing prior to purchase. So I called them up. It took some time tho before somebody picks up the phone. Please improve sunway lagoon marketing team!

(a) i could buy as many package as I want and utilize them at the same time. just that if you see the t&c, it said "maximum 1 packages per transaction". yes I could buy as many as I can and utilize them at the same time. Just that i got to make 3 different transactions.

(b) my daughter who's just 5 yo could also utilize this package. because you see, the package said 4 adults, but the logic in me say, this ticket is more expansive compared to single child ticket, so it should be ok. but I call to confirm anyway. just so that I could sleep at night. oh, and yes, she can utilize the ticket in that package.

(c) my maid (from Indonesia) could also utilize the package. i'm just worried because frm the rates, you can see that there is price difference between myKad and non-myKad rates. but, yes she could utilize the package. and another fun info, apparently, there is no price difference between Malaysian and foreigner if you purchase online.

There are other on-going promotions from Sunway Lagoon, just that it did not match with our group and timing.

In short, if you see a good online deal, grab it. Or, if it's last minute, purchasing online is definitely better than walk-in.

I think we came during off peak days. There were no long queue for rides (except Vuvuzela). and there were a lots of available tables and benches. Even so, we had to queue for Vuvuzela and food! So I cannot imagine if we came during weekend, ke memang tak ramai orang pergi Sunway Lagoon nowadays?

Sunway Lagoon opening time is 10am - 6pm. We arrived around 1030am, still not that many people. I expected they have special counter for online purchase, but none. I guess because it was not that busy that day or still early in the morning.

The kids and I came in already in my swimming suit. If your swimming suit or wet attire is decent, i'd recommend just wear them straight from home. Especially to the ladies. Leceh lah datang then nak ke toilet tukar-tukar. There are 2 types of locker. 1 luggage and 1 small. The lockers can open as many time as you would like.

I recommend to keep your valuables inside the locker. and to keep your changed clothes inside there. BUT for parents with baby, bring a bag that contains the baby necessities i.e. food, drink, milk, changes cloth, towel, pampers etc all the way. Once you start walking and exploring the park, to get back to the locker would be troublesome.

Stroller would be quite useful too. But again, do not bring too many stuff around. For adults, a set of clean cloth to change into should be sufficient. For kids, maybe can bring their swimming gear.

On the topic of what to bring, I'd recommend waterproof cases. We went around KLCC to look for this and finally found it at Daiso. Extremely useful to put on your mobile phone and money.

Bring along enough cash for your meals later. You can opt for cashless transactions via putting your money inside your wristband, but since we got the vouchers, we did not know how much to estimate. Since the shops still accept cash, I just carry some cash around.

Waterproof camera would be nice too. But you need to be aware that you could not bring the waterproof cases and cameras during your rides. We leave those items with Mbak or Emak or Mama who's not interested with the rides. But I see some people still bring the waterproof cases (containing their phones) while queuing for the rides. I guess they do not have somebody to leave their belongings and if you put it inside your shirt during the rides, it is acceptable. but do not take my words in this. Better to bring nothing loose when you play the rides!

There are no soap and shampoo in the shower room. So please bring your own soap and shampoo.

Do not forget to take the map at the entrance.

Start the day with the most popular rides i.e. Vuvuzela or any other rides that you want to try first. Else, you'd waste your time queuing for the rides like we did. and we did not even have the time to go to the Amusement Park. oh well, reason why we need to go to Sunway Lagoon again i guess.

Oh, and don't keep your slipper in the locker. You'll need slipper to walk around. If not, it'll hurt walking around barefoot especially in the middle of hot days. You can leave your slipper at the rides' entrance.

Fun fact, the tubes can only be used at the beach. Each rides provided their own tubes meaning you don't have to rent the tube for any rides. In fact, tubes is not allowed at Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon and Scream Park. So unless you want to just lounge at the beach from start, there is really no point to rent the tubes from early on. and people will try to steal your tube. lol. I saw it happened in front of my eyes and it actually happened to us. I'd like to think that those people actually have no idea that we rent the tube with deposit, and we need to return the tube in order to get the deposit back.

Lunch time would be pack at the restaurants and you do not want to waste time queuing. So buy your food early, or little past lunch time.

You can play the rides until 6pm. So technically the park does not close at 6pm lahhh.

As always, there is height limit to play the ride. Husna barely passed the height limit but thank you to the staff for allowing her to play irregardless and for not allowing her to ride Vuvuzela. She cried  a bucket tho. haha.

Not sure about the rides at the Amusement Park, but the rides at the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon and Water Park, almost all the rides, you need to go in couple. So plan your group especially if you have kids that do not pass the height limit.

For us, we took turns to play the rides with Husna. yes, she played one ride two to three times. While we were playing, Hannah was with Mbak, and Emak and Mama who were too scared to go on any rides anyway.

Wah muslimah sangat ada tips untuk sembahyang.

Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon and Water Park are wet park. and I also see that some rides at Amusement Park alo wet rides. So between the rides, when you are dry, i'd recommend perform your Zohor. before it'll be too late and Zohor is ending and you dont have choice but to pray with your wet clothes. #yaAllahpleaseacceptmyprayer

The Surau is clean and adequate. However, I think we went during non-peak time. So do not quote me if it happened that the Surau is messy and pack during the time you are there.

Since we went on Friday, what worried us is that the men could not re-enter after exiting the park for their Friday Prayer. Before going, I was quite confident an exception could be given and that the men could re-enter. After all, this is Malaysia kotttt. How can you not understand the sensitivity of Friday prayer?

I asked the lady at the ticket counter when I was exchanging the internet voucher for the wristband. and she actually said "NO"...homaigod, I was digesting the info and could not even tell Hannan that. Partly because i did not trust her or I was thinking I would write a long complaint to the management if that's the case. As i was distributing the wristband, Hannan asked male worker who's checking the bag whether the men could go out and re-enter after Friday prayer, and he said "YES"..he said just ask for him before going out. oh pulakk, oh well. so, if one staff say "No" ask other staff. lol. or if the request is reasonable, ask and ask again.

That's all that I could think of to make your Sunway Lagoon experience value-for-money.

All Well Ends Well

Alhamdulillah, after 2 months logging report to our respective credit cards, the case is closed. We were required to pay our maximum liability which is RM250.00. So so thankful and glad. Could not imagine if we had to pay all the spent by the thief.

Speaking of which, I'm yet to share how he got caught. You see, we were still at police office inside the train station. The train station is linked to malls, much like KL sentral. As the thief swiped and swiped our cards, we received sms notifications.

Yes, we received the sms notifications, while we were inside police station, while trying to call bank to cancel the card. So the policemen also got to see the sms-es. Some notifications were vague, like it just mentioned "Your credit card was charged at LA HALLES for amount of EURXXX. Please call..." La Halles is just the name of the place, however, there was this one particular sms notifications that caught their attention.

"Your credit card was charged at LA POISSONNERIE LA HALLES for amount of EUR300. Please call..."" Apparently that is a fish shop. So the policemen went to the shop. The cashier informed that, yes, someone with the description bought fish from their shop. HOWEVER, the fish that he paid was not available at that time so he will come back in the evening to get the fish. So the policemen standby by the area waiting for the thief to come back.

Sights of policemen in Paris is not unusual. There are everywhere. So, that must have not alerted the thief at all even if he saw there were policemen outside the shop. He himself actually came back to pick up the fish. and at that time, the policemen caught him. He was carrying my passport holder at that time so that almost confirmed it.

The next day, we were taken to Paris main police station from Les Halles police station. We were taken by France police car across town. Yes, i thought about selfie, but tak terbuat pula.

there, we were asked to identify the thief. I thot about going into room and people lining up etc, you know like in a movie, but they just showed us 4 pictures and asked us to identify. We immediately recognized which one he was. Luckily both of us had a good look at him while we were waiting for the lift, before he pick-pocketed Hannan while inside the lift.

With our identification, the France police proceeded to press charges. Hoooray, one less pickpocket off the street of Paris. and I got my passport cover back yeayyy.

So that's our "holiday"...will be taken few years off from Europe holiday I guess. Still got no mood.

Paris Always a Good Idea

Read here if you do not know why we have to spend our Morocco holidays in Paris.

so we decided to just to make the best of the situation and continue our #hanemoon in Paris.

Well, not like we could go anywhere else, and the flight back to Malaysia not until Sunday.

This was just after we managed to get our Emergency Certificate.

Trivia, did you know that you could still claim VAT using your Emergency Certificate?

Yes, I asked, confirmed and actually did that...:)

From the embassy we just walked towards Trocadero.

The last time we were in Paris, weather was not on our side so since it was bright and sunny day, we would like to redeem our pictures.

First thing first, breakfast like a French.

Now, let's take some pictures. favourite picture of 'em all. Macam gambar honeymoon kan? :p

Be Safe During Your Holiday - My Travel Tips

These are my travel tips, from my travels and of course my takeaways from the recent incident.

1. Doa, doa, doa.
Not to sound cliche, but always keep in mind that no matter how perfect your planning is or how comfortable you are when and where you are travelling to, there is always a greater power or something beyond your control. So, always pray all to the almighty to look for you and assist you.

2. Travel Insurance
It's always good to have piece of mind in case something happened to you. So, I would recommend for you to buy travel insurance. However, most importantly you must well verse of your insurance coverage. In addition, it is good that your travel insurance also covers travel inconveniences as most travel insurance only caters for personal accident and medical expenses.

my travel folder.

3. Make copies of information. hardcopy, softcopy
Print everything, save everything on your phone, save everything online. I did bring "travel folder" and I simply cannot stress enough the importance of having this travel folder. Technology could just fail on you at the time you need it the most. Your phone could run out of battery and you might be underground (as we were) where you could not be connected to access your information online. I am so pro-travel folder that I think next time I would make two sets. You know just in case. #traumatizedtraveller

By everything, i mean your;

- passport copies
- IC photocopies
- important number (see number #4)
- flight booking
- hotel booking
- transportation booking
- your travel insurance coverage
- copy of your travelers, cheque
- copy of your credit/debit card that you are bringing with you

We had quite difficult time to check in hotel in Paris after we lost our passport. Mind you that we had police report and a nice policeman escorting us to the hotel to assist with the check in, still, the hotel receptionist quite resistant to let us stay at the hotel simply because we did not have our passports. Luckily, we printed out our passport copies and she accepted that as prove of identification.

4. Keep and write down important numbers and information
If you cannot remember your parents or family members phone number by heart, no shame at all in writing it down. Because you know, you might lose your phone. Other important number worth to write down are;

- bank telephone numbers
- credit card direct line telephone numbers
- address and telephone umber of Embassy
- travel insurance telephone numbers

while my credit card bank i.e. CIMB called me to verify the unauthorized purchases, Hannan had to go through pain of connecting to Visa before eventually connected to HSBC Malaysia. So, i think if you had the direct line numbers, the process would be simpler. and please ensure that you try to call the number before leaving to ensure it is IN SERVICE!

5. Passport photos x 2
In case you lose your passport, you would definitely require 2x passport photos in order to apply for the passport replacement. You will save yourself trouble to get your passport photos if you already bring along the photos. These photos sometime used for rail passes etc. In Europe, there are plenty of the passport photo self service machine, and you see them almost everywhere. However, there'll be instances that you just cannot find them, or it'll cost you a bomb especially if you already lost your cash.

Money Belt
Security Holster
6. Always be on guard - use money belt/security holster
As much as i want you to relax and enjoy your holiday, please keep in mind that there are people just preying and looking out for you to be just a little careless. It is better to be safe than a little pickpocket incident that could destroy your holiday altogether. In pack areas i.e. metro, train station, lift, wear your bag to the front. Keep your important and valuable items inside the pocket of your coat or inside your body. By inside your body, i am suggesting you to wear money belt or the security holster. These items keep your belongings close and secure to your body. insyaAllah.

7. Get your to-use items ready
Now that you have safely tucked away your valuables i.e. passport, cash etc. the next challenge is to minimize those items out in public places hence exposing yourself. So normally, from the hotel room, we would anticipate what we would actually need and keep it safe inside jacket pocket, or front jeans pocket. But just the thing that we really need like 1 ticket with little cash. Just enough to buy a drink or two. and if we need more from the money belt/security holster, we ensure that we were not in crowded public places.

8. Keep your important belonging safe - bring extra locks, safe bagpacks, wear moneybelt
As funny as it sound and look, pad-locking your bagpack actually give you peace of mind. However, in crowded places, always bring your bagpack to front. There are many cases where the thief cut the bagpack open instead of opening it.

9. Do not keep all your cash/credit card/travelers cheque in the same place
We were rather glad that the thief found the passport holders first. I think he thought that they were wallets so he did not bother to open other compartments and look for other things. Should he opened the main compartment, he would have found another travel wallet containing more of our valuables i.e. cash (USD, Euro, RM), and more credit cards. So it is always good to separate your cash/credit card. and if you are traveling with spouse, to ensure that each spouse had another set of cash and credit card that could sustain both of you should emergency occurs.

10. Bring minimal cash but always have extra.
as they say it, cash is king! it's important to have cash especially in USD when you are travelling. This extra cash wil be useful in time in need. However, once cash is lost, highly unlikely you'll get it back. Safe to say it'll be total lost. So be extra careful with your cash. Keep it close (see tips no 6).

11. Pack Light
It's easier to move around and if you are not so busy handling your luggage. Not sure whether I my self could practice this one tho. However, please do some check and balance whether taking a cab/uber would be more practical than lugging your luggage around.

All said and done, do enjoy your day, and enjoy the person you are travelling with. and in time of distress, take one step at time. settle one issue at one time. when you have come prepared, it will be easier and less stressful. However, it is best to avoid it altogether.

#hanemoon2morocco became #hanemoon2paris

Most already know that our Morocco trip was cancelled.

Here's what happened :(

From KL, we took flight to Paris and stayed overnoght in Paris before taking flight to Morocco. However, we got pick-pocketed while we were in Paris city center, at Chatelet Les Halles metro station en-route to Paris CDG Airport to board the flight to Marrakech, Morocco.

Sad? Yes. Traumatized? YESSS!

The thieves stole our passport holders. My passport holder contained my PASSPORT and CIMB CREDIT CARD. Hannan's passport holder contained his passport and HSBC Credit Card. To top it up, the thief even managed to  use the credit card.

CIMB actually called me while I was trying to contact them. However, still RM9k++ transactions went through.

Meanwhile, HSBC just sent a message to Hannan saying "Your card has been used at XXX for amount XXX, please call if you did not authorized.." No phone number to call back, no instant reply to reply to. We tried calling HSBC Malaysia using the number provided at the back of the HSBC supplementary card, SUPRISED..! the number was not in service -_- So from the police station, we had to call Visa, which required thousands of verification, and "please hold the line..." and meanwhile the sms notifications of transactions keep coming in. The thief was actively using the credit card while Hannan tried to get through the bank. A RM25k++ was used.

So no passport, no visa, no entry to Morocco. Bear in mind that we already paid quite huge amount of non-refundable deposit to our Morocco agent. To top it of, our credit cards that were stolen, were used!

Shaken, we just want to go back to Malaysia as soon as possible.

Of course we had to report and apply for passport at Malaysia Embassy in Paris. Since Malaysia Embassy in Paris does not issue passports. we only received Emergency Certificate.

Upon receiving our Emergency Certificate, we just want to go home asap. But of course that was subject to flight availability and the soonest we could go home was on Sunday (we got our Emergency Cert on Wednesday).

On the bright side, the France Police managed to catch the thief on the same day that he stole our belongings. the story of how the thief got captured is rather funny which I shall share later. We even required to identify the thief, which we successfully did and we pressed charges.

So, ok..

While we were in Paris and recovering from trauma and counting our blessings by playing "it could have been worse if....." which really helps by the way, we just continued our holiday in Paris.

So that's the story how our

#hanemoon2morocco turned into #hanemoon2paris
